“A UPS – short for uninterruptible power supply – is the foundation of any IT environment,” says Patrick Bast, Senior Account Manager UPS Solutions at ABB. ABB is a Swedish-Swiss multinational active in automation and products for electricity transmission.
Bast reflects on 23 years of experience with UPS systems, which are used where continuity and reliability are essential. “That applies to datacenters, of course, but also to hospitals, for example. A UPS ensures the power stays on where it is needed. And often overlooked but even more important: they provide clean electricity without grid voltage pollution.”

When Interconnect was looking for a UPS for the new datacenter in Den Bosch, they chose the ABB DPA 500 system without hesitation. Patrick Bast explains, “This choice was not only because Interconnect was already familiar with the system. It was already in use at the datacenter in Eindhoven, so the datacenter administrators knew it well. Availability, flexibility, functionality, service, and support were also key factors in the selection process.”

Bast also highlights the system’s ability to deliver completely clean electricity, no matter how it enters the grid. “In the Netherlands, we have an excellent generation method, but the network is always very busy with many users and just as many sources of pollution feeding back into it. This leads to an overcrowded network, which naturally impacts the availability and reliability of electricity. You don’t want to face this unreliability and reduced quality in your datacenter, as it can cause malfunctions that are often very difficult to diagnose. The DPA 500 absorbs these fluctuations and pollution, effectively preventing such problems.”
